Cold Coffee Press Café Spotlight Interview With Jan Selbourne

Jan Selbourne was born and educated in Melbourne, Australia.

Jan’s love of literature and history began as soon as she learned to read and hold a pen.

After graduating from a Melbourne Business College her career began in the dusty world of ledgers and accounting, working in Victoria, Queensland and the United Kingdom.

On the point of retiring she changed course to work as secretary of a large NSW historical society.

Now retired Jan is enjoying her love of travelling and literature. She has two children, a stray live in cat and lives near Maitland, New South Wales.



What makes you proud to be a writer from Australia? A very proud Aussie, I've been fortunate to have travelled to the UK, Europe and the USA, I've met wonderful people who've inspired me. It’s always good to come home.

What or who inspired you to become a writer? My dad.

Did your environment or upbringing play a major role in your writing and did you use it to your advantage? My parents and my school encouraged a love of books and history.

When did you begin writing with the intention of becoming published? 2013

What has been your most rewarding experience with your writing process? My manuscript being accepted and working with a wonderful editor.

How many published books do you have? One

Do you come up with your title(s) before or after you write the manuscript? Before

Please introduce your genre and why you prefer to write in that genre? Historical Romance. I love history and enjoy researching for authenticity.

What was your inspiration, spark or light bulb moment that inspired you to write the book (one book) that you are seeking promotion for? My ancestor's anecdotes and letters home from Belgium and France during WW1

What one positive piece of advice would you give to other authors? Persist

Who is your favorite author and why? I don't have one favourite author

Which book title would you like featured in this interview? Behind the Clouds

Its 1914, when the German Army invades Belgium, igniting the first spark of World War One, Adrian and Gabrielle are trapped in a nightmare of betrayal, lies and treachery.

Not knowing who to trust they flee for their lives with the brutal German forces hot on their heels determined not to let them escape.

They endure hunger, privation and brutality and discover deep love.

Will their love survive charges of treason, more lies and a woman who won't stop until she sees Adrian dead.

Adrian and Gabrielle, stuck in a cold, empty marriage, are in Belgium as the dark clouds of World War One loom over Europe. Their life of wealth and privilege disappears when they are thrust into a nightmare of betrayal, lies and treachery. Not knowing who to trust they flee for their lives with the brutal German forces hot on their heels determined not to let them escape.

Living on their wits, and narrowly avoiding capture and death, love rekindles, while unbeknown to them the treachery has spread its tentacles to England.

Will the love they found in war torn Belgium survive charges of treason, more lies and a woman who will stop at nothing to see Adrian dead?
