Pump Up Old Image Captions Easily

If you like to include old images in your books, you've found that captions often wash out after they're scanned. Here's an easy fix: I use Photoshop, but packages like Gimp will work as well. Do you know about "burning" and "dodging"? They're old, old techniques, left over from the days when photographers developed and printed their images from film. "Burning" is used to darken overexposed portions of an image. "Dodging" is just the opposite. Either or both were done during printing. You…

Give It Wings And Let It Fly Away - by Ken Maxon

Eyes aglow like hot coals in a fire

A heart fully filled with burning desire

A soul with a wish finally be free

To live out her dreams completely

But trapped in a cage rusted and old

In brief conversation, not worthy she’s told

Just enough oxygen to keep her alive

Too little fuel for her fire to thrive

She’s heard it so…

Kid's books: honesty

Did your parents ever tell you “Honesty is the best policy?” But maybe you disagreed. Perhaps you thought that would only cause more trouble.  Let’s say one of the three of us broke our mom’s favorite vase. Naturally, our dad would ask which of the three of us broke it. He’d promise if we told the truth, we would not be punished. Our dad would scold us and remind us to be more careful. In the end, we were glad to understand the importance of being honest. My kid’s books highlight things like…

Don't Get Trampled

I want to say something else on writing.

People ask me, do I make money with my writings. And I say, yes I do. I get a w-2 each year for filing taxes on what I have sold. Remember people are fickle when it comes to spending their money on a book, ebook, or short story. There are million to billions of published material out here, that is published every year, and half of all this stuff is free.

Everyone is not going to buy what you write, not…

Love what you do and make money at it

People love what they do even if they don't make money at it. However, when it comes to writing and publishing this what I say: Money can be made with your writing, it is just stressful don't give up. There is so much out there and people have so many choices when it comes to what they want to read and spend their money on. A lot of books online are free. Just make your book or story stand out from rest of the pack and watch it make money. It's hard work but It…

Cut to the Chase

March 11th. 2017

They say there are two things certain in life: death and taxes. There’s something else too: when you’re an indie writer, whatever you’ve tried with regard to promotion and marketing, it’s been done before by most of the others, and all with the same results — it inevitably ends up back at the drawing board.

I read a post from an author during the week about her attempts at whatever is ‘flavour of the month’. I found myself reading, nodding my head…
