Tug of the Wishbone, a women's novel, published December, 2016

Chimes and Rhymes for Grown-ups to be read to children

The Poetry Universe is a forum for poets and writers on Facebook, created in 2014. Members include experienced poets and beginning poets stepping into the poetry community. Our authors span the globe, and some poems are translated into English to reach a wider audience. One aspect of the forum is our “challenges”, which have become very popular. After several challenges specifically designed to create poetry for young readers, we devised the idea of publishing a book of children's…

Do You Love Werewolves?

Do you love werewolves as much as I do? I first fell in love with the pathos of the werewolf while watching Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein. Even as a young girl, I was touched by how something so vicious can happen to someone so gentle.

Thus, my The Amazing Wolf Boy series was born. It's the humorous coming-of-age story of a teenaged nerd who becomes a werewolf and must re-start his life.

And now the first book is an audiobook. Get it at…

Wrapping it up

December 17th. 2016

Nearly there: just eight days to go. This will be my last post in 2016 for obvious reasons. So much to do, so much already done. Those of you who have been following my posts will know that I am getting close to finishing my novel. My wife is doing the final edit, which should be complete by the end of the day. I will read it through again and, hopefully, not find any more errors. Pat has found plenty of those already. I’m still deliberating over the…

How to Write Better Dialogue ‘Schitt’s Creek’ Style

I’ve read a lot over the years—not as much as some of those insane speed readers who seem to devour a book a day, but a lot. In fiction, my tastes vary between pulp and literary. And I have to say, a lot of literary writers write dialogue that is wooden and boring. I mean, I know this stuff is supposed to be highbrow and all, but honestly! Sometimes, I want to reach in between…

Bits and Pieces

December 11th 2016

Do you ever read novels for a second time intentionally? About a third of the way into the Sam Bourne novel I started last week, I realised I read it a few years ago. It couldn’t have left that much of an impression on me. I sometimes read my own books again, often a few years after they have been published. I remember Barbara Cartland once saying she often read her own novels when she was feeling unwell and not in the mood for writing. Mind you, she had…
