Cold Coffee Press Spotlight Interview With Author Anastasia Cassella-Young

Tell us a little about yourself: I am married to a wonderful and caring man that I fell in love with at first sight...we were married 2 months later twelve years ago this November 2015.

I also have a son who lives in the beautiful tourist town of Bar Harbor, Maine, where I was born. I attended high school at Washington Academy in East Machias (Maine) and college at the University of Maine at Machias (Maine).

I have traveled the eastern seaboard 4 times. In New York City I first learned to use a computer on a Wang system (most people don't remember Wang) and each and every job thereafter taught me a new computer program for writing/typing.

My writing career started when I was in high school. I wrote poetry at that time and in the 90's my aunt Theodocia McLean who is a multi-genre author (her books can be found on Amazon) encouraged me to publish my poetry. After publishing the poetry book I wrote my short stories. The novels kept coming after that.  I still have many more titles and ideas in my head...I still have the need to put pen to paper again.

Interview:

What makes you proud to be a writer from Maine? I am proud to be an author who was born in Maine and has come back to Maine. It makes me proud because many good authors come from Maine and have the wonderful landscape to describe in their novels.

What or who inspired you to become a writer? My father was working on a novel while I was growing up so I think I picked up the skill set at that time. I started in high school after that and continued writing and still continue to write.

When did you begin writing with the intention of becoming published? I started writing poetry back in the early 80's. I had not thought of publishing it at that time. My aunt Theodocia McLean (her books can be found at Amazon) encouraged me to publish and I started with that book in the 90's.

Did your environment or upbringing play a major role in your writing and did you use it to your advantage? My environment and upbringing play a major role in my writing and I used it to my advantage because I use experiences from my life in Maine and use the imagery from the landscapes found in Maine. My life is in my writing.

Do you come up with your title before or after you write the manuscript? I start to put together a novel and then I put the name to it before it is finished although currently I have three titles in my head and have been working on them in my head as well.

Please introduce your genre and why you prefer to write in that genre? I write in several genres because my ideas tend to spread out into other avenues as I am writing a novel hence another novel with another genre.

What was your inspiration, spark or light bulb moment that inspired you to write the book that you are seeking promotion for? The inspiration for my novels in all their genres are my life in writing.

What has been your most rewarding experience with your writing process? The most rewarding experience with my writing process is when I finally come to a conclusion for the novel and a reference to match the title to tell where the title came from.

Have you had a negative experience in your writing career? If so please explain how it could have been avoided? I have had a negative experience in my writing career when I asked Publish America to publish my first book.  It could have been avoided if I had taken more time to investigate publishers.

What has been your most rewarding experience in your publishing journey? The most rewarding experience in my publishing journey has been the publishing of each and every book and having it out there for others to see.

What one positive piece of advice would you give to other authors? When it comes to publishing be patient. Investigate any publisher or service provider you intend to use in publishing your work.

Who is your favorite author and why? My favorite author is Charles Dickens. His style of writing and the stories he generated are a fulfilling read and such an enjoyment. He had skills that I would never dream that I could match. I'd like to be able to write half as well as he has. There are many stories and the varying topics have held my interest all my life including doing a paper on him in college.

Is there anything else that you would like to share with us? My education of classical items began at an early age when I started ballet classes and became aware of classical music. My father wrote and I was interested in the idea that he could produce a work that explains a story line. Thus began my interest in the arts.

How many published books do you have? I have ten (10) novels published at this time. I also have many more titles and stories inside my head.

Which book title would you like featured in this interview? The book I'd like to have featured with this interview is "The Seiners".

If you are a multi-book author please tell me three of your favorite (published) book titles: Three of my favorite book titles are "The Seiners", "Murder, Secrets and Injustice in a Small Town" and its sequel "Justice is Served".

What has Johnny Cavelli gotten himself into?

See how Johnny achieves control of Granite Island. Learn how Johnny fails to see the concept of asking bigger, badder men to help resolve some issues he's having with Frank Miller.
