Cold Coffee Café Spotlight Interview With Author Sharon Kleve

Sharon Kleve was born and raised in Washington and currently lives on the Olympic Peninsula with her husband.

Sharon is a multi-published author of paranormal and contemporary romance. She loves romance. She loves reading romance, living romance, and especially loves writing about romance. She gets no greater feeling than watching her characters come alive in each other's arms. Most of all, she loves giving her characters the happily ever after they deserve—with a few bumps and bruises along the way.

One of her favorite things to do is picking up a new book and sinking into the story, immersing herself in the emotions between the characters. She hopes to inspire her readers the same way her favorite authors have inspired her.

When not writing, she can usually be found either curled up in her recliner with her cat and a good book, or in the kitchen baking sourdough bread or bagels.

Interview:

What makes you proud to be a writer from Washington? I’ve lived in Washington my whole life. I’ve never wanted to live anywhere else. There is so much to write about and to love. I’m proud to being living in such a beautiful place.

What or who inspired you to become a writer? My husband. He told me I could do anything. Any writing is an amazing craft.

When did you begin writing with the intention of becoming published? I’ve always loved to read romance novels. My sweet husband said, “Why don’t you write one.” I started typing in 2010 and haven’t stopped yet.

Did your environment or upbringing play a major role in your writing and did you use it to your advantage? No. I started writing as an adult.

Do you come up with your title before or after you write the manuscript? Always before. I can’t seem to get into the story unless I have a title first.

Please introduce your genre and why you prefer to write in that genre? Contemporary Romance. I started out writing light paranormal romance, but I like the sweeter side of romance.

What was your inspiration, spark or light bulb moment that inspired you to write the book that you are seeking promotion for? Valentine Promise is the fifth book in The Corny Myers Series. I had the ending to the series in my mind for a while. Now it’s done and I can mow on to other books.

What has been your most rewarding experience with your writing process? Meeting my publisher, becoming good friends and now I work part time for Books To Go Now as a promotions manager.

Have you had a negative experience in your writing career? If so please explain how it could have been avoided? Getting a bad review is devastating, but it happens to the best authors.

What has been your most rewarding experience in your publishing journey? Getting great, heartfelt reviews.

Have you had a negative experience in your publishing journey? If so please explain how it could have been avoided? No. Not at all. Books To Go Now is wonderful to work with.

What one positive piece of advice would you give to other authors? Never give up your writing if you want to get published. If you get a bad review learn from it and keep writing. That’s the only way you will get better.

Who is your favorite author and why? Janet Evanovich. Because she made me laugh, and laugh, and laugh. I love Stephanie Plum.

Is there anything else that you would like to share with us?

I’m asked on a regular basis why I have some sort of animal in every one of my books. It is simple…I love animals and I love writing about them. It doesn’t matter what kind, shape, or size. I love them all!

Throughout my life I’ve had dogs, birds, frogs, lizards, rabbits and of course precious cats. My husband and I have a dozen bird feeders, two water fountains and multiple yard-art fixtures that we put food and water in for the critters.

Several years ago our cat of fifteen years passed away and we were going to wait awhile before getting another one but as the days went on we missed having a cat. It was during the winter so there weren’t any kittens available. I searched all the shelters and saw pictures of an eight-month-old female, shorthair cat.

When we picked up Ardy from the Bremerton, WA PAWS, they said we'd never be able to pick her up or touch her. She'd been abused. My husband played with her and instantly fell in love. We took her home and after many months of special care, she loves to be held. We laugh because she likes it so much she won't let you put her down.

All animals deserve a little time, patience and a good loving home.

PAWS is a wonderful organization.  To volunteer your time or donate: you can contact them at http://www.paws.org/
